Negli ultimi 25 anni la temperatura superficiale globale è salita di 1 °C e nel 2023 la temperatura complessiva di tutto il Mar Mediterraneo ha registrato un aumento di oltre 2 °C rispetto alla media 1982-2011. La circolazione termoalina regola il clima globale, ma il riscaldamento e lo scioglimento dei ghiacci minacciano questo equilibrio. La Bora influenza il Mediterraneo, mentre ondate di calore marine e medicane, sempre più frequenti, dimostrano che il Mediterraneo è un hot-spot climatico. In the last 25 years, the global surface temperature has risen by 1 °C, and in 2023 the total temperature of the entire Mediterranean Sea will rise by more than 2 °C compared to the 1982-2011 average. The thermohaline circulation regulates the global climate, but warming and ice melting are threatening this balance. The Bora wind affects the Mediterranean, while increasingly frequent marine heatwaves and medicanes show that the Mediterranean is becoming a climate hotspot.
